One could only imagine the sense of honor one would surely feel upon being elected the President of the historic United Golf Association, but to be the President of the USGA during the 2013 Championship season must feel extraordinarily special for current President, Glen Nager. The On Par radio show is proud to present Michael Miranda. “Mike” as his friends call him, is another one of those special golfers that calls Long Island home. Standing over 6 feet and weighing 200 pounds, Mike fits the mold of the modern golfer. He’s been playing golf since his 8 years of age and has been playing on the Middle Country High School varsity golf team since the 8th grade. Michael is a two-time Suffolk County Champion.

If you were fortunate enough to see some of golf’s legends grace the fairways of Long Island on an annual basis from the late 80’s until the better part of the nineties; then you owe a debt of gratitude to the man who first brought the PGA Tour to Long Island–Gene Bernstein. The former Metropolitan Golf Association President and Northville Industries Corp. Chairman is the man responsible for bringing Long Islanders closer to the legends of the game including the likes of Palmer, Nicklaus, Player and Trevino.

This week's show features 2013 Richardson Invitational winner, Russ Aue. The Richardson Invitational is the Long Island Golf Association's opening event for amateur golf on Long Island. Traditionally played at the Seawane Club, but moved to Engineers Country Club when Hurricane Sandy rendered Seawane unplayable for the Richardson. Russ Aue defeated Hal Berman on the eighteenth green to win his first amateur event.
